Last autumn, a small group of women at Peachtree Village in Avon began sewing “Walker Carry All Bags” for Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association clients. The fabric bags easily attach to the front of a walker with Velcro, and feature multiple pockets which allow users to carry their glasses, tissues, and other essentials “hands free.”
News of the project has spread throughout the communities we serve, and to date, more than 20 volunteers have donated their time and talent to create over 200 Walker Carry All Bags for our clients’ use.
As a token of appreciation, the Farmington Valley VNA staff invited volunteer sewers to a recognition luncheon at the Simsbury office on June 18. Volunteers enjoyed meeting each other, exchanging tips and ideas, and received tomato pin cushions with a card declaring “We ‘sew’ appreciate the fruits of your labor.” Incy S. In addition to sewing Walker Carry All Bags, the Farmington Valley VNA offers volunteer opportunities in the areas of direct care and activities that benefit our Hospice clients and their caregivers, marketing and office projects, fundraising initiatives, public immunization and screening clinics, the Granby Food Bank program, and representing the agency at events throughout the communities we serve.
